Suggestions on a new place

Have you looked at Harbor Village? I lived there 2006-2007 and was happy with it (though it's luck of the draw on whether you get stuck with trashy neighbors or not). Two bedroom was around $800 at the time, so possibly still under $1000 now.

Harbor Village is a garden-apartment community at 2370 Harpoon Court in Henrico, set in woods off Parham Road with a lake beside the clubhouse. All of its homes are two-bedroom, 825 to 845 sq ft, in classic and renovated finishes on upper and lower floors. The grounds include a pool and sun deck, a tennis court, a playground, a dog park, a fitness centre and a clubhouse. It is managed by Management Services Corporation.
